The Poetry Out Loud program teaches students the art of poetry recitation. The competition includes 53 students from each state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. After the two-day competition, which was held in the nation’s capital, Samara Elan Huggins from Georgia was named the 2017 Poetry Out Loud National Champion for her recitation of “The Farmer” by W.D. Erhart.
