Arthur E. Levine has announced that he will step down in July as the president of Teachers College, Columbia University, one of the nation’s most prominent schools of education. The board of trustees for Teachers College will conduct a nationwide search for candidates to fill the post.
The president of the school, located in New York City, since 1994, Mr. Levine, 57, will leave the university for a year to continue his research on education in the United States. A year later, he will return as a professor of education.
Teachers College—which has 1,500 graduate students—is affiliated with Columbia University, but it is legally and financially independent.
