“Smart and Good High Schools: Integrating Excellence and Ethics for Success in School, Work, and Beyond” is available from Cortland State University of New York College.

To assist in setting up high school classes that “help students become both smart and good,” a report highlights nearly a hundred examples of character-centered lessons that focus on morals and ethics.

The 227-page report includes an analysis of how the concepts can be integrated into instruction and the school ethos to improve academic achievement and behavior. The authors, Thomas Lickona and Matthew Davidson, researchers at the Center for the 4th & 5th R’s (Respect and Responsibility) at the State University of New York at Cortland, report the findings of a two-year study of 24 high schools.
