A total of six teachers and students from three public schools in the nation’s capital lost their lives when a hijacked jet crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11. They were aboard the flight en route to California to take part in an educational field study sponsored by the National Geographic Society. The society also lost two staff members who were headed to the event.
