Mel J. Riddile has been named the 2006 National High School Principal of the Year by MetLife and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Mr. Riddile, 55, the principal of J.E.B. Stuart High School in Falls Church, Va., since 1997, was honored for starting a schoolwide reading initiative and introducing the International Baccalaureate program to the school. He will receive a $5,000 award.
The Reston, Va.-based NASSP provides leadership resources to middle and high school principals. The New York City-based Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. provides retirement plans and other financial services to health-care, education, and nonprofit organizations, among other clients.
