Margaret M. Lyons has been named the superintendent of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland’s school system by Bishop Anthony M. Pilla.

Ms. Lyons, 55, will succeed Sister Carol Anne Smith, who has been serving as the 66,000-student district’s superintendent and secretary of education for 11 years. Sister Smith will remain as secretary of education in the diocese, which serves an eight-county area that includes Cleveland and Akron.

Currently serving as the associate superintendent of secondary education for the diocese, Ms. Lyons begins her new job July 1.

Marti T. Richardson is serving a one-year term as the president of the National Staff Development Council.

Ms. Richardson, 65, is the supervisor of staff development and extended- learning programs for the 52,000-student Knox County school system in Knoxville, Tenn., where she has worked since 1956. She is also the director of the district’s Teacher Center.

Based in Oxford, Ohio, the NSDC offers books, workshops, journals, and other products related to staff development to its 10,000 members.

The board of directors of the Consortium for School Networking has elected Robert J. Moore as its chairman.

Based in Washington, the 1,500-member consortium includes education technology leaders at the local, state, and national levels.
