The public wants America’s education system to be improved by instituting higher standards tempered with flexibility, suggests a position paper by the Center for American Progress.
The position paper, written by Ruy Texeira, a senior fellow at the Washington-based center, argues that the public is willing to tolerate strict guidelines and increased testing to improve education, but says that more money should be spent on public schools to reduce class size, attract better teachers, and provide more after-school programs to meet the demands of the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
