Sen. Harry Reid, the Majority Leader, prevailed in his re-election bid against Sharron Angle, a tea-party backed opponent who ran on scrapping the U.S. Department of Education.
Angle, who once taught in a one-room school house, garnered support from homeschooling activists, and members of the tea-party movement. During the campaign, Reid, a Democrat, argued that Nevadans really count on programs such as subsidized student loans. And, interestingly, on his campaign website, Reid isn’t so thrilled with the No Child Left Behind Act, saying it narrows curriculum. That may matter more, now that it looks like he’ll retain his seat and leadership post.
