A Houston couple has joined with the foundation associated with the Knowledge Is Power Program, or KIPP, to create a $100,000 annual award for a teacher working in an underserved community. The first Kinder Excellence in Teaching Award will be given next spring; applications are due by Dec. 31 to www.kinderaward.org. The award is backed by Nancy and Rich Kinder, who are longtime supporters of kipp and its Houston charter school.
