The Student Loan Marketing Association (Sallie Mae) has selected 100 first-year elementary and secondary teachers for the Sallie Mae Teacher Awards.
Reward recipients, all of whom have used the federally funded Guaranteed Student Loan Program, were evaluated on the basis of their collegiate academic performance, leadership abilities, and performance as first-year teachers, as judged by their schools’ administrators. Each teacher will receive a $1,000 award.
“As a business enterprise which, essentially, invests its resources in human capital, we believe it is appropriate to recognize outstanding teachers whose professional skills and personal dedication are making significant contributions toward excellence in education,” said Edward A. McCabe, chairman of the Sallie Mae board.
The awards program is administered for Sallie Mae, the nation’s largest single source of financing for education credit, by the American Association of School Administrators in Reston, Va.
