The College Board is rolling out a new Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test next fall and a redesigned SAT in spring 2016.
The new PSAT/NMSQT will be 35 minutes longer (two hours and 45 minutes total), include evidence-based reading and writing questions, and place a greater emphasis on the meaning of words in an extended context. It also will give credit only for correct answers in the future.
A side-by-side comparison of the current and redesigned tests is on the College Board website. Officials expect to have sample questions available in December or January and a full practice test by March.
