Data Lookup: Assess Your School District’s Risk for Budget Cuts

The near-total shutdown of the economy will cause financial distress in many school districts. The levels of suffering may hinge largely on the sources of funding that comprise districts’ annual budgets. Those that depend most on state funding—raised mostly through sales and income tax revenues—will be at greatest risk for deep budget cuts, while those with more robust local revenues such as property taxes will be in a better position to withstand widespread state budget cuts.
