This is the time of year that causes people to reflect on the accomplishments they have achieved, the difficulties they have overcome, and the areas for growth both personally and, perhaps, professionally. Therefore, we thought it would be appropriate to reflect on the blogs we submitted for 2010 and look at where we were, where we are, and where we may be going in the education organization.
This came across my Facebook news feed today and I just have to share it here. Broadcasting students at Magnolia High School near Houston, Texas put together this amazing video to Katy Perry's song "Firework." The song itself is a very positive and uplifting song -- and I love how these students present such a powerful message to other students in this video. I think this is also very timely -- this video could fit right in with some other recent "it gets better" messages.
we would like to share some advice about how candidates can make themselves more marketable and more successful from the posting of their resumes to the appointment by the board of education.
Lately, I have been thinking about Spielberg's movie "Saving Private Ryan". Not because we just celebrated Veteran's Day or because I am particularly inspired by war movies, but because I have been researching models for effective teacher leadership. And not-so effective models, too. And because, for a moment there, we lost sight of our mission, just like Captain Miller's troops.
How parent-friendly is your campus? When I worked on a campus as a teacher and later as an administrator, I was always aware of the fact that each campus usually had some parking area reserved for parents and/or visitors to the campus. Faculty and staff were not allowed to park there. I helped plan parent engagement activities and was involved in making decisions about which rooms would be hospitality rooms, meeting rooms, etc. and where signs should be posted to help direct parents and visitors around the campus.
Raise your hand if you spent time exploring, challenging, refining, and enhancing your professional practice today? Now, raise your other hand if that professional learning took place in a collaborative context with other professionals?
