Last week, Education Week reported for the NewsHour about a small region in Vermont that was in the throes of a fierce debate over whether or not to consolidate its five tiny school districts into one. The controversy stemmed from the community’s deeply-felt sense of local control.
This week, residents overwhelmingly voted against the consolidation effort. None of the five districts voted for the plan, according to local media reports.
