Three American universities will receive $575,000 to establish partnerships with Russian higher education institutions, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings said last week in Moscow.
Ms. Spellings made the announcement during a brief visit to the Russian capital on Oct. 22, after attending a United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization conference in Paris.
The projects will be financed by both the U.S. Department of Education and the Federal Agency on Education of the Russian Federation.
Two grants will pay for exchanges of students and teachers in mathematics, science, public health, and other subjects. The third project will develop curricula for training nuclear engineers.
The U.S. universities involved in the projects are the University of Maryland College Park; the University of Iowa, in Iowa City; and Indiana University Bloomington.
