The Pittsburgh school board has voted to close seven schools, including two high schools, to save money but still faces a $21.7 million deficit for next year.
The board voted 8-1 at a meeting last month to make the changes, which also include ending an experiment with single-gender classes at its 6th through 12th grade Westinghouse School by February.
The plans include closing Oliver and Langley high schools and five elementary, intermediate, and primary schools in the 25,000-student district.
