Many forms of shared reading can boost language growth for English-learners, who are overrepresented among students who read at below-basic levels in U.S. schools.
A new analysis of more than 50 studies and 4,000 students finds shared book reading allowed adults to model the skills of a proficient reader, focusing on fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. English-learners benefited from shared reading of texts in both English and their native languages.
