A nonprofit group that performed a study of Oklahoma school district Web sites this summer says most didn’t meet basic criteria for transparency for taxpayers.
In a report released last week, Oklahomans for Responsible Government said 79 of the state’s 531 districts, or about 15 percent, don’t have a Web site. Further, no district fully met all 10 of the criteria established by SunshineReview.org, a national transparency-advocacy group, for posting public documents.
State schools Superintendent Sandy Garrett said that while the Oklahoma education department encourages districts to have Web sites, they are not required by law to do so.
