To the Editor:
Van Schoales’ opinion essay, “The End of Education Reform,” has done our nation a great service in declaring the end of some 60 years of ineffective changes in an education system requiring restrictive, though convenient, standardized test scores (May 1, 2019).
These tests have little to do with how students will fare in life. I think students intuitively feel a disconnect between what we are defining as important in our schools and to their futures.
Is it time to start listening to those dedicated professionals who rebelled against this ineffective system and sought deeper ways to both develop and assess student growth?
