Michael H. Levine, who for 10 years directed the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s early-childhood-development and policy-research work, is the new executive director of the I Am Your Child Foundation.

The foundation, founded in 1997 by the producer and director Rob Reiner, is based in Beverly Hills, Calif., and New York City and promotes issues involving young children’s development.

Jayaram Balachander

Jayaram Balachander, 35, has been named chief technology officer at bigchalk.com. The New York-based company offers an online educational network for K-12 teachers, students, and parents. Mr. Balachander was previously the vice president of software engineering at Viacom.

Scholastic Inc., the New York City-based educational publisher, has named Julie McGee its executive vice president for educational publishing.

She will assume her position next month and will be responsible for managing the company’s educational publishing ventures and marketing.

Ms. McGee, 58, was previously an executive vice president at Houghton Mifflin, another educational publisher, and the president of McDougal Littell, a division of Houghton Mifflin.

Foster B. Gibbs

The superintendent of the Saginaw (Mich.) City School District, Foster B. Gibbs, 63, has announced that he will retire next June after 23 years with the district.

He joined the 13,000-student district as a teacher in 1959. The district plans to conduct a national search for a new superintendent.
