An estimated 4,400 Illinois 5th graders who failed a state reading test this past spring may end up passing that mandatory exam after all. Students taking the test normally would have needed a score of 156, on a scale of 120 to 200, to pass the reading exam. But during a school district’s appeal of test results, state officials noticed that it was impossible to score exactly a 156. So students statewide will be counted as passing the test if they scored at least a 155, state officials said.
