The Achievement Gap

These charts show the performance of African-American and non-Hispanic white students on the 2003 administration of the National Assessment of Educational Progress in 4th grade reading and 8th grade mathematics. This achievement gap has risen to the top of policymakers’ concerns and is a major focus of the No Child Left Behind Act.
