As part of its Great Performances series, PBS airs “Legendary Maestros: The Art of Conducting.’' The show looks at 16 of the 20th century’s most renowned conductors--George Szell, Otto Klemperer, Leonard Bernstein, Bruno Walter, and Arthur Nikisch, among them. It includes rare film footage from as far back as 1913, as well as commentary from conductors, composers, and musicians. Air time: 10 p.m. (EDT).

May 28.

The Learning Channel offers “Learning From the City,’' a half-hour production about educational opportunities available in urban environments. The show focuses on two programs--one in St. Louis, Mo., the other in Tucson, Ariz.--that provide opportunities for students to work with business leaders, professionals, and other community organizations to enhance their educations. Air time: 12:30 p.m. (EDT).

May 29, June 5, 12, 19, 26.

The Arts & Entertainment Network presents American Revolution, a six-part series about the 30-year struggle leading up to the creation of the United States. Each one-hour episode includes elaborate battle re-creations, graphic animation, and historical narration. Air time: 7 a.m. (EDT).

June 2.

As part of its Assignment Discovery series, the Discovery Channel airs “Goals 2000 Satellite Town Meeting: Teaching and Learning in Diverse Classrooms, High Standards, and Accountability.’' This televised meeting, one in an on-going series, features conversations about raising and maintaining expectations in racially diverse classrooms. Air time: 9 a.m. (EDT).

June 4.

The Learning Channel presents “Overlooked Students,’' a half-hour special that examines how two schools--one in Michigan, the other in Utah--are successfully keeping high-risk students engaged in the educational system. Air time: 12:30 p.m. (EDT).
