Carol D’Amico, who served as the Bush administration’s assistant secretary for vocational and adult education at the U.S. Department of Education from 2001 to 2003, is one of three new appointees named to the National Assessment Governing Board.
The independent board sets policy for the National Assessment of Educational Progress, a widely scrutinized federally sponsored test of student ability across subjects.
Ms. D’Amico is the president and chief executive officer of Conexus Indiana, a private organization focused on manufacturing and logistical industries in that state.
She is joined by fellow new appointees Anitere Flores, a Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives, and Eileen Weiser, a former member of the Michigan state board of education who served on the NAGB from 2003 to 2007.
The appointees were named by U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings. All will serve four-year terms.
