Ready to Start: Ensuring High-Quality Prekindergarten in SREB States

Five Southern states now have at least 40 percent of their 4-year-olds enrolled in public prekindergarten programs, says a report from the Atlanta-based Southern Regional Education Board.

With proportions as high as 70 percent in Oklahoma and 51 percent in Georgia, the Southern region continues to lead the nation in providing access to early-childhood-education programs. The report urges states, however, to do more to make sure that English-language learners and children from low-income families are receiving services.
