Most educators participate in collaborative Web sites, although many say they could use more professional development in how to tap such resources effectively, according to a new survey by edWeb.net, a free social-networking site for education professionals.
About one-fifth of the respondents also reported using other Web 2.0 tools, such as YouTube (20 percent), collaborative Web sites called wikis, and podcasts for school.
The study of nearly 1,000 teachers, principals, and school librarians found that more than half of principals, 61 percent of teachers, and 71 percent of librarians are involved in some type of social networking. Of those educators who use such sites, 86 percent belong to Facebook.
